Digital Bar Code Artwork (EPSymbolsTM)
|

|
In order for a bar code to be useful, it must be able to be read the first time scanned. Companies are demanding that every bar code symbol furnished meet the requirements of a "readable" symbol. The quality of a bar code is initially determined by the original artwork being used. Note: Not all bar code software is the same!
At Bar Code Graphics, our expertise in bar coding stems from the
manufacturing of high quality film masters. In the early 1970's,
we participated with the Uniform Code Council (now called GS1
US) in setting the
standards and specifications for film masters. A film
master is the plate-ready artwork of a bar code symbol, which is
compensated for the print gain/loss. The precision of a film
master must be +/-.0002", or else the tolerance ("room
for error") allocated for printing is reduced, thus making
the printer's job more difficult. Since that time
we have produced bar codes for over 310,000 companies. Aside
from manufacturing UPC symbols, a variety of other bar code
symbols are also available (Government, Publishing, Health,
etc.). Our technical support covers
questions regarding Pre-Press, Printing, Industry Requirements,
and Bar Coding. EPSymbols™ - Digital Bar Code Files The advancement of desktop publishing has brought the demand for electronic bar code origination as a substitute for traditional film stripping procedures. This alternative introduces many quality control issues, so consequently certain precautions and controls must be followed. Bar Code Graphics provides EPSymbols™ (bar code files) in .eps format. Low resolution graphics (jpg, gif, and tiff) and fonts should never be used for original barcode artwork for package or label design. Our electronic bar code file program is the only one in the industry which recognizes and corrects these system differences. EPSymbolsTM incorporate a "System Factor" in every file to neutralize individual system differences. Only vector based file formats, such as encapsulated postscript files (.eps), can yield the necessary precision required for bar code artwork.
